Retirement Family Home, Hood Point, Bowen Island, B.C.
Located on the family’s original 1928 cabin waterfront site, the owner wished to retain some of the cabin’s original character features. Old fir doors, the claw foot tub (refinished), cabinets, fireplace bricks, etc. were salvaged and used in the new home. Designed as the full time retirement residence for a single person and dog with visits from grown children, the main floor plan maximizes sun into the kitchen and dining areas. A covered porch with water views also receives sun most of the day. The master bedroom (computer desk, en suite bath, dressing closet) is on the quiet side of the house. The full width West facing covered porch has areas for sitting, dining and outdoor sleeping. The upper floor includes two bedrooms and a central flex space (TV, guest bunks, etc.) with doors onto a roof deck. The half basement level rec room with ocean views opens to a covered patio with a hot tub and an outdoor (human and dog) shower for after ocean swims. The permitting process included obtaining approval from the Hood Point Residents’ Association.
